Rust Kavach

By JPL Innovations Pvt. Ltd.

Rust-inhibitive • Converts rust to stable iron tannate • Adhesion promoter

Rust Kavach is a purpose-built rust-inhibitive primer that chemically converts existing rust into a stable, non-corroding iron tannate film. It bonds strongly to the substrate, stops further oxidation, and functions as an excellent adhesion-promoting primer for subsequent coatings.

Converts Rust
Transforms active rust into a stable iron tannate layer that resists further corrosion.
Strong Chemical Bond
Creates a durable bond to the metal surface, improving topcoat adhesion.
Minimal Surface Prep
No need for heavy sandblasting — light wire brushing / emery paper is sufficient.
Proven Corrosion Resistance
Clears more than 350 hours in salt spray testing when system-applied correctly.

Product Overview

Rust Kavach is formulated to stabilize rusted mild steel surfaces and provide a chemically converted surface suitable for painting. It emulsifies residual moisture present on the surface into the film during painting; this moisture evaporates during drying leaving a stable, adhesive layer for topcoats.

Recommended as a primer on bare M.S. surfaces. For previously painted surfaces remove loose paint and contaminants before application.

Technical Advantages

Industrial-grade rust conversion and bonding performance engineered to extend metal life, enhance surface stability, and deliver long-lasting corrosion protection.

1

Converts Rust Chemically

Transforms rust into stable iron tannate, halting corrosion progression effectively.

2

Adhesion Promoter

Improves bonding for primer and topcoat systems, minimizing delamination risks.

3

Simplifies Surface Prep

Reduces the need for extensive mechanical preparation — saves labor and time.

4

Salt Spray Performance

Achieves over 350 hours salt spray resistance when applied as per system guidelines.

Application Procedure — Rust Kavach

Prior Check

  • Ensure surface is free from grease, oil, and loose scale. Remove loose particles with 100 no. emery paper or wire brushing.
  • The surface must be reasonably dry. Remove soluble salts and contaminants where present.

Steps

  1. Mix Mineral Turpentine Oil (M.T.O.) 15%–20% with Rust Kavach if needed to make it brushable or sprayable as per site conditions.
  2. Apply Rust Kavach directly to bare M.S. surface — two coats are recommended with a 6–8 hour gap between coats under normal conditions.
  3. On pre-painted surfaces, remove as much existing paint as possible (paint remover/mechanical removal) to allow Rust Kavach to contact rusted metal.

Special Notes

Note: Must be applied directly on bare M.S. surface for optimal conversion. On previously painted substrates, remove loose paint and contaminants for best results.
